The Confederation Lake Trail near Powell River is a 3-½ hour moderately difficult hike to the Forest Service Log Cabin along a well-marked trail, with several switchbacks and wonderful views of Inland Lake, the Rainbow Range and Powell Lake.

This is a beautiful walk through sections of old-growth forest featuring Western Red Cedar and Douglas-fir. The trail meanders along parts of the Confederation Lake shoreline and leads to a log Cabin, which has a wood stove and can accommodate six people.

From Powell River head towards Inland Lake. Just before turning left into the campsite, take the right branch of the road. Drive in for approximately 2 kilometres and park in a cleared out parking area. The trailhead is located approximately 100 metres north of the parking area, which is an old logging road that heads off to the right. Travel along this road until you reach a fork in the road. Take the right fork and continue uphill. Follow this old road that will eventually turn into a well-marked trail.

Vehicle access is restricted from November 1st to April 1st by a locked gate located just before the Inland Lake Recreation Site. An additional 1.5 kilometre hike along the Forest Service Road is required to access the trailhead.

Guide and Map: The local guide Trails of The Lower Sunshine Coast is produced by the Sunshine Coast Forest District - available at Visitor Info Centres on the Sunshine Coast.
